What does skin tags removal entail?

Skin tags, small growths ranging from brown to flesh-coloured and typically a few millimeters to 5cm in size, protrude from the skin’s surface. Comprising loose collagen fibres, blood vessels, and surrounded by skin, they resemble warts or raised bumps. While benign, skin tags, common yet harmless, generally cause no discomfort. However, they may catch on clothing or jewellery, leading to bleeding and potentially impacting self-esteem.

What triggers Skin Tags?

Affecting both genders, skin tags often manifest in skin folds or creases, notably on the neck, armpits, around the groin, or beneath the breasts, with overweight individuals being more susceptible. Hereditary factors can play a role, while those with type 2 diabetes or pregnant women are also at higher risk. Some individuals develop them inexplicably.

Is there a risk of Skin Tag recurrence after removal?

After skin tag removal, there is a possibility of recurrence, although it’s not guaranteed. Factors such as genetic predisposition, skin friction, and underlying health conditions may influence the likelihood of skin tag regrowth. While removal procedures can effectively eliminate existing skin tags, new ones may develop over time, particularly in areas prone to friction or where skin folds. Regular monitoring and maintenance can help manage any potential recurrence, and consulting with a healthcare professional for personalized advice is recommended.

What outcomes can I expect?

With electrocautery, the skin tag will be effectively removed, and a small white or pink scar may remain in its place. The procedure aims to eliminate the skin tag by applying heat, causing it to disintegrate. However, there might be some temporary skin irritation or discoloration. Further treatment may be needed if the skin tag does not completely disappear.

FAQ

Frequently Asked

What method do we use for skin tag removal?

At Skin Health & Beauty Clinic, we use Electrocautery, which is a medical procedure that uses heat generated by electrical current to remove skin tags. While the idea of injections may seem intimidating, the majority of our clients assure us that the procedure is virtually pain-free.

How does electrocautery remove skin tags?

During the procedure, a small probe is used to deliver a controlled electrical current to the base of the skin tag, effectively burning it off.

Is electrocautery painful?

Patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure, but local anesthesia is typically applied to minimize pain.

How long does the procedure take?

The duration of the procedure depends on the number and size of the skin tags being removed, but it generally takes only a few minutes per tag.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with electrocautery?

Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and scabbing at the treatment site. In rare cases, scarring or infection may occur.

Is there any downtime after the procedure?

Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, it’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise and direct sunlight on the treated area for a few days.

How many treatments are needed?

In most cases, only one treatment session is required to remove the skin tags. However, additional sessions may be necessary for large or numerous skin tags.

Will the skin tags grow back after electrocautery?

Electrocautery typically provides permanent removal of skin tags. However, new skin tags may develop over time, especially in individuals prone to them.

How much does electrocautery for skin tag removal cost?

The cost of electrocautery for skin tag removal varies depending on factors such as the number of skin tags treated and the healthcare provider’s fees. It’s best to inquire with your healthcare provider for specific pricing information.
