HiFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

HIFU Bournemouth (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

What is

HiFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-surgical treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin. It works by heating deep layers of the skin to boost natural collagen production. This helps reduce wrinkles and improve skin firmness without needles or downtime. We are now offering this HIFU treatment in Bournemouth, for face lifting, jawline shaping, and neck tightening. It is safe, quick, and suitable for those looking for a natural-looking result without surgery. Ideal for both men and women, HIFU is a top choice for non-invasive skin tightening treatments in the UK.

How does HIFU work?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) works by sending focused ultrasound energy into the deeper layers of the skin without harming the surface. Here’s how it works:

Targeted Energy: The ultrasound targets specific depths under the skin (usually 1.5mm, 3mm, and 4.5mm).

Heat Stimulation: The energy heats the tissue to about 60–70°C in short bursts.

Collagen Boost: This heat triggers the body’s natural healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production.

Lifting and Tightening: As collagen builds up over time, the skin becomes firmer, tighter, and lifted.

Results improve over 2 to 3 months, with no need for cuts, needles or downtime.

Is HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) Suitable For All Skin Types?

Yes, HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is generally suitable for all skin types and tones because it targets deeper layers of tissue without affecting the skin’s surface (epidermis), which reduces the risk of pigmentation changes.

However, there are a few things to consider:

  • Best results are often seen in people aged 30 to 65 with mild to moderate skin laxity.

  • Not ideal for very loose or severely sagging skin where surgical lifting may be more effective.

  • Not recommended for people with active skin infections, open wounds, severe acne, metal implants in the treatment area, or certain health conditions.

A professional consultation with our qualified clinician is important to check if HIFU is right for you based on your skin condition, medical history, and treatment goals.

FAQ

Frequently Asked

What skin concerns can a HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) address?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) can help with several skin concerns related to ageing and skin laxity. It is commonly used to:

Lift and tighten loose skin on the face, neck, and décolletage

Reduce fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes, mouth, and forehead

Define the jawline and reduce the appearance of a double chin

Improve skin texture and firmness

Lift the brows for a more open, youthful look

Smooth sagging skin on the cheeks and under the chin

Tighten skin on the body (in some cases)

HIFU is non-invasive and works by stimulating natural collagen production deep within the skin, offering gradual and natural-looking results without surgery.

What is the recovery time from HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)?

One of the main advantages of HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is that there is little to no recovery time.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Immediate return to normal activities – Most people go back to work or daily tasks straight after treatment.

  • Mild redness or swelling may occur, but usually fades within a few hours.

  • Some people may feel slight tenderness, tingling, or sensitivity, which can last for a few days.

  • No bandages, downtime, or special aftercare is typically needed.

Because HIFU is non-invasive and does not break the skin, the healing process is fast and simple, making it ideal for people with busy lifestyles.

is HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) painful?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is not usually described as painful, but some people may experience discomfort during the treatment.

Here’s what most patients report:

  • Mild to moderate discomfort as the ultrasound energy reaches deep skin layers.

  • A feeling of heat, tingling, or tiny electric pulses under the skin.

  • Areas with less fat (like the jawline or forehead) may feel more sensitive.

  • The sensation lasts only during the ultrasound pulses and not throughout the whole session.

Most clinics do not use numbing cream, as the discomfort is brief and manageable, but some may offer it for sensitive clients.

After treatment, you might feel:

  • Slight tenderness

  • Minimal swelling or redness

  • A mild “tight” feeling in the skin

These effects usually fade within a few hours to a couple of days. Overall, HIFU is well-tolerated, especially compared to surgical alternatives.
