Wrinkles in Your Skin?

Are you interested in reversing these signs of aging without undergoing surgery?

If the goal is to restore a more youthful appearance without the need for invasive procedures, Botox* could be the solution.

Botox as commonly known for the short for Botox or Botulinum Toxin Type A, a wrinkle smoothing treatment and a highly effective protein in diminishing wrinkles, often showing noticeable results after just one treatment. However, Botox® is a registered brand which innitially led the global market becoming into the popular generic name.

There are other excellent brands of Botulinum toxin such as Dysport®, Azzalure®. this two are assessed before being placed on the EEA market, and other brands such as Xeomin® and Myobloc®.

Globally, it has become the most sought-after option for wrinkle treatment due to its exceptional and safe outcomes.

The procedure typically lasts 30-45 minutes, and there is usually no downtime required. This means you can seamlessly resume your daily activities without anyone being able to discern that you’ve just undergone a rejuvenating treatment.

How Does Botox* Eliminate Wrinkles?

To comprehend how Botox effectively removes wrinkles, it’s crucial to grasp the underlying process of fine line and wrinkle formation.

The primary culprits behind skin wrinkles are primarily muscle contractions, which are associated with facial expressions.

For example, smiling and laughter involve lifting the cheeks, causing the skin around the outer corners of the eyes to fold and leading to the formation of Crow’s Feet wrinkles.

Similarly, expressions like surprise or raised eyebrows can result in the folding of the skin on the forehead, giving rise to Forehead Lines wrinkles.

Repeatedly making the same facial expressions causes the skin to fold consistently in specific areas. This repetitive folding leads to the development of wrinkles as the skin loses its ability to return to its smooth, initial state.

While the skin is naturally flexible, constant folding reaches a point where wrinkles persist even in the absence of the corresponding facial expressions. As one ages and continues these repetitive muscle contractions, fine lines often progress into wrinkles, and wrinkles may deepen over time.

Why Botox?

So, the primary cause of wrinkles is typically repeated facial expressions, although it’s not the sole factor contributing to their formation. Other factors include alcohol and drug consumption, stress, smoking, lack of sleep, pollution, an unhealthy diet, and excessive unprotected sunlight exposure.

How does Botox work to diminish these wrinkles?

As previously mentioned, Botox, a neurotoxin with paralytic properties, is employed in the treatment of wrinkles. A minute amount of diluted Botulinum is injected into specific facial muscle groups, temporarily paralysing them either completely or partially, depending on the dosage.

By immobilising these muscles, they become incapable of contracting or exhibit reduced contraction ability. Consequently, the skin no longer forms the same folds during facial expressions, preventing the continued development of fine lines and wrinkles. With time, as the skin ceases to create these repetitive folds, it gradually reverts to its original smooth state, potentially leading to the complete disappearance of wrinkles.

This mechanism distinguishes Botox from dermal fillers. Botox targets muscle contractions to halt or diminish wrinkle formation, while dermal fillers, composed of a filler material, serve dual purposes: addressing wrinkles by adding volume to the affected skin area and enhancing facial aesthetics by adding volume to specific facial features such as lips, nose, and cheeks.

What Type Of Wrinkles Do We Treat With Botox?

Botox is effective in treating various wrinkles and facial areas. While not an exhaustive list, here are some common ones:

  • Bunny Lines (wrinkles on the upper part of the nose)
  • Crow’s Feet (outer corner of the eyes)
  • Dimpled Chin (one or more lines on the chin)
  • Forehead Lines (horizontal lines on the forehead)
  • Frown Lines (vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows)
  • Gummy Smile (reducing visible gum when smiling)
  • Lip Flip (enhancing visibility of the upper lip)
  • Marionette Lines (vertical lines from the corners of the mouth)
  • Masseter Muscle (reducing jaw muscle size)
  • Necklace Lines (horizontal lines crossing over the neck)
  • Platysmal Bands (vertical cords in the neck/throat)
  • Upper Lip Lines (vertical lines above the upper lip)

FAQ

Frequently Asked

Is Botox* Painful?

After being applied, Botox* or Botulinum Toxin Type A, you might experience minor discomfort, but it is generally manageable, according to most clients.

If preferred, we can use a numbing cream to temporarily desensitise your skin, minimizing or eliminating any pain. You may still feel some pressure from the needle, but that’s typically the extent of it.

While the idea of injections may seem intimidating, the majority of our clients assure us that the procedure is virtually pain-free.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Typically, the effects of a Botox injection endure for approximately 3-4 months. This duration is attributed to the gradual natural elimination of Botox by the body. As the Botox diminishes, the temporarily paralyzed muscles gradually regain their normal function.

The advantage of Botox treatments lies in their temporary nature, ensuring flexibility in appearance adjustments. If the results meet your satisfaction, and you wish to sustain the rejuvenated look, it’s advisable to consider treatments 3-4 times a year. Interestingly, with repeated treatments, some individuals find that they require less frequent injections over time.

Will I Have Facial Movement After Botox*?

Certainly, you will retain the ability to move your face and engage in facial expressions post-Botox or after being applied the Botulinum Toxin Type A.

However, the particular local muscles targeted by Botox may experience full or partial paralysis, leading to restricted movement in that specific muscle group. It’s important to note that muscles or facial expressions not treated with Botox will remain unaffected.

Why Botox* takes two weeks to be effective?

The delay in the effects of Botox* or Botulinum Toxin Type A is primarily due to the mechanism of action involved. Botulinum Toxin works by binding to a specific protein at the motor endplate of nerves, disrupting the transmission of chemical messages (acetylcholine) that instruct the muscle to move. Although the binding process is quick, the complete silencing of the chemical messenger takes time.

After Botox is injected, it needs to inhibit the release of acetylcholine from the nerves, and this process takes a certain amount of time. The muscle gradually loses its ability to contract as the neurotransmitter activity diminishes. As a result, the full effects of Botox, where the muscle is effectively paralysed, become noticeable over the course of approximately two weeks. This delayed onset allows for a more gradual and natural-looking outcome, and it’s a normal aspect of the Botox* treatment timeline.

What Are The Side Effects From Botox*?

Botox* or Botulinum Toxin Type A is considered a very safe treatment, and normally there are no, or only mild, side effects. All the botulinum injections we use are top quality and 100% approved in Europe and the UK.

And the good news is that these potential side effects are very mild and normally disappear within 48 hours.

These potential side effects are bruising, redness, or swelling where the injection was made.

How to eliminate wrinkles without surgery?

For achieving a wrinkle-free and youthful appearance, a combination of Botox or Botulinum Toxin Type A and dermal fillers is commonly suggested. This approach is occasionally referred to as a non-surgical facelift or liquid facelift. The treatment is personalised for each individual, and during an in-person consultation, various treatment options are carefully discussed. Free consultations are readily accessible.

What should I avoid after applying Botox?

Being a non-invasive procedure, there is no recovery time. However, we recommend the following precautions to prevent the diffusion of injectables to adjacent muscles: Refrain from lying down for four hours post-treatment. In the subsequent 24 hours, avoid rubbing or touching the treated area, handle makeup gently if necessary, refrain from facials and exercise, and steer clear of extreme temperatures. If you experience a headache, you may take paracetamol.

Can I get Botox* at any age?

Diminishing lines and wrinkles can revive a youthful look. The treatment must be applied to adults only, People often consider ageing injectable treatments such as Botulinum Toxin Type A or a populary known as Botox* in their late 20s to early 30s and beyond. This is not restricted by an upper age limit. However, as individuals age, Botox* alone may not fully rejuvenate sagging skin and the aging process. In such cases, a combination of dermal fillers and Botulinum Toxin may be suggested for optimal results.

Can I sleep after Botox*?

After receiving Botox* or Botulinum Toxin Type A, you are free to sleep in any position. However, it’s recommended to refrain from lying down for at least four hours following the treatment.

Does Botox* always work?

Occasionally, the treatment may be ineffective, though this is uncommon. Typically, the issue arises from substandard products or insufficient injection quantities, often associated with budget offers aimed at cutting expenses.

* Botox® is a brand name for Botulinum Toxin Type A, and it has become a widely used colloquial term for this substance. The term “Botox” is derived from the combination of the words “botulinum” and “toxin.” However, Botox® is a registered trademark of Allergan, a pharmaceutical company that developed and “initially marketed Botulinum Toxin Type A” for various medical and cosmetic purposes causing by default the use of the word Botox to refer to Botulinum Toxin Type A.

While Botox is a well-known and commonly used term, it’s important to note that there are other brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A available in the market, each with its own unique formulations and names. These include Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau, among others. These alternative brands may have variations in formulation, onset time, or duration of action, but they all belong to the broader category of botulinum toxin type A. We at Skin Health & Beauty in Bournemouth only use CE Marking (EEA approved) products.
